Edge of Tomorrow was a pretty solid movie. I would absolutely have gone to it in the theater, but the marketing just did not connect with me. I've run into this with a number of movies now.
- kiba 10y agoEdge of Tomorrow was a hollywoodized happy version of the original Japanese novel, which ended on a very bittersweet note.
- thewopr 10y agoHmmm, I didn't know that. Will have to read. Thanks.
- kiba 10y agoThe title is All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka for anyone who don't know.
- IOT_Apprentice 10y agoDoesn't detract from it being a great movie.
- Cyph0n 10y agoThe movie had a much better execution in my opinion, mainly thanks to the masterful editing throughout. The light novel was OK but nothing great.
- moultano 10y agoThe original novel is terrible though. Everything that was interesting or moving in it was invented for the movie.
- clevernickname 10y agoYour taste is terrible though.
- bennesvig 10y agoIt didn't help that they changed the name to Live Die Repeat for its home release. My wife doesn't like action movies or Tom Cruise but loved Edge of Tomorrow. That movie was definitely a missed opportunity.
- dbsjkdn 10y agoOh, weird. Even though the movie didn't do great, it seems implausible that renaming it and throwing away all that marketing investment would help the DVD release. I wonder if that plan has ever been successful.
- TylerE 10y agoTechnically they changed the name BACK. LDR was the name of the source material.
- captn3m0 10y agoWasn't the source material the light novel? I remember it being called "All you need is Kill".
- sangnoir 10y agoSo the creatives delivered, but Marketing botched it? This point negates the theme OP is running with in most of the letter, implying rank and file office plebs are doing a great job, but the filmmakers are letting them down.
- SpaceManiac 10y agoI suppose it's up to interpretation; I got more of an "upper executive mismanagement" vibe, with which Edge of Tomorrow is consistent, than "crew vs filmmakers".
- jrnichols 10y agoIt reminded me a lot of "Source Code" in so many ways. I thought both were decent movies.
