How exactly is it different than, say, cattle ranching?
- daveloyall 10y agoCattle don't recognize themselves when given a mirror.
- adamnemecek 10y agoCruelty: It's roughly the same. I'm against cattle ranching too btw, but I think that we can agree that trinkets might be less important than food. Economically: It takes ~20 years for elephants to start growing tusks during which you have to spend money on them. A poacher does not have to. Ecologically & Zoologically: Elephants can't really live in captivity. They roam over large distances (thousands of miles) and are really important for their ecosystems. You can read more about it here http://savetheelephants.org/about-elephants/importance-of-elephants/ http://savetheelephants.org/about-elephants/importance-of-el...
- gliese1337 10y agoCattle... ...are domesticated ...have comparatively rapid reproductive cycles ...do not have as strong or as complex family relationships ...are not as intelligent In other words, cattle are both easier to farm than elephants, and don't have the capacity to mind being farmed as much as elephants.
- gohrt 10y agodairy cows still suffer the loss of their young, and veal calves suffer the loss of their mother.
