Here's what I do to satisfy my cravings for Macs. I just buy used Macs from OWC/MacSales (www.macsales.com). The 2012 machines are pretty affordable and will give me years of service even if bought today. I have outfitted all my family members with used Macbook Airs (average price $499) except for my son who is holding out because he believes he needs nothing but top end Graphics Cards to run games. I know this doesn't directly address the Hackintosh question, but provides an affordable alternative to splurging on brand new latest and greatest Macs or hacking together an unsupported system.
