The claim is that adderall and meth are almost identical because the only difference is one has an extra methane group, however it would be absurd to say that methanol and ethanol are almost identical because they also only differ in an extra methane group.
- lazerpants 10y agoWell they are nearly identical except for the methyl group. Rather, your example illustrates the differences in metabolism that even a small change to a molecule can create within a living system due to enzymatic specificity.
- apathy 10y agothe guy is a "Top Neuroscientist", which apparently means he doesn't have to do menial things like work at the bench. That said, Adderall == amphetamine salts == amphetamine. I'm surprised that the world needs a Top Neuroscientist to point out that A == A and B == B. Although since he fucked even that trivial point up, maybe we need fewer of them.
- earcaraxe 10y agoTo be fair, they're quite similar in their MOA and dopamine receptor sensitivities. Methamphetamine is also prescribed as a treatment for ADHD in the US under the trade name desoxyn in similar milligram dosages to adderall. The main difference is that methamphetamine has lower norepinephrine excitation.
