Fatherhood hasn't done much for your typing, either! Did you ever consider the possibility that having children also coincided with you getting older? That might seem obvious but many things can be explained by the inevitable march of physical decline. On sleeping children, I agree that too much emphasis is placed on getting children into their own beds, but I also think that in the USA there is too much New Age claptrap about family sleeping as well. If the child is in your bed they could be asleep and slapping you every minute which isn't going to help you at all.
