The author states that autopilot made him a better driver but I can't see how. If the car is doing most of the work that requires a person's attention then they will pay attention to something else. This will prove fatal when the sensors fail or there is some unforeseen condition. Hunans are, at this point, able to detect and possibly correct for for more errors. Sure the car would be able to react more quickly but maybe it won't react at all.
