An interesting case occurred in Toronto, where Sammy Yatim was shot to death by Officer James Forcillo. Forcillo stood trial for second-degree murder AND attempted murder. In the shooting, Forcillo fired two volleys, one while Yatim was brandishing a knife and another volley after he was incapacitated on the ground. The jury found that the first volley was justified, whereas the second volley was not.
