I would rather pay $200 for a refurbished Thinkpad t420s and then $150 in SSD /RAM / wifi card upgrades than $750-1K for a brand new laptop. My last Mac Mini went 4 years before I upgraded to the current model, and honestly there's not a lot of performance difference between the two, at least for my use cases.
