Show HN: Make Slack Bots in Java
- zachlatta 10y agoReally not a fan of the name – why name it BotKit when you know that the most popular framework is also called Botkit?
- ramswaroop 10y agoYes, was discussing the same with Botkit founder as well. Will change the name asap.

- staticelf 10y agoSeems cool :)
- ramswaroop 10y agoThanks very much @staticelf
- mbrevoort 10y agoInspired so much that you stole the name? That's embarrassing.
- ramswaroop 10y agoYes, will change the name soon. Please suggest a good one. Was thinking of BotGear.
- lpolovets 10y agoHow about JBot? You could call him/her Jay for short.
- ramswaroop 10y agoYes, JBot seems cool :)
- ramswaroop 10y agoI really liked JBot and was thinking of renaming it now and here's what I found: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=JBot http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=JBot :D Surprising
- mbrevoort 10y agoI like JBot... Other options: bot4j J4bot Botsdk (pronounced botstick) Bot devkit Chatbot kit Botlib
- elmigranto 10y ago> Botsdk (pronounced botstick) These kinds of things never work, people rarely pick up non-obvious pronunciations or abbreviations (look at nginx, SQL, or npm). So don't get too attached to the idea.
- MrBuddyCasino 10y agoSlackerJack?
- ramswaroop 10y agoThis framework will also be for facebook and twitter. So, a universal name would be great :)
- ianamartin 10y agoHackerJack?
- tedmiston 10y agoNo need to dwell on what is a pretty generic name after all.
- hiou 10y ago"stole"? Come on it's a generic name anyone might come up with. Dial back the rage for a night.
- robinhowlett 10y agoLike it - though the FILE_SHARED example doesn't appear to work.
- ramswaroop 10y agoThanks for letting me know. The example shown is incorrect as you can't reply to it. Because to reply you need to have a channel id in event object and slack doesn't send a channel id for file_shared event (https://api.slack.com/events/file_shared https://api.slack.com/events/file_shared). I will modify the example now. Thanks very much.

- ramswaroop 10y agoExample modified and released. Thanks once again for pointing this out.
- earthpalm 10y agoSome other interesting java bots: http://www.sumve.com/ai-chatbots/music/edm/java-bots.html http://www.sumve.com/ai-chatbots/music/edm/java-bots.html
- justin_vanw 10y agonah, I choose not to do this, or really anything else that I can avoid doing, in Java.
- ramswaroop 10y agoAny reasons behind this thought? Mentioning the same here would help.
- ramswaroop 10y agoGuys, are there any Hacker News badges for Github? For example, I want to show points on it and refer to this page when someone clicks on the badge.
- ramswaroop 10y agoGuys, from the feedback of many developers, I have renamed the project from BotKit to JBot. Thanks very much.
