As others pointed out: 45 is young and you can do low level programming for as long as you've got your health. At 45 you still have half your career ahead of you. It's not so hard to demonstrate assembly knowledge by putting some projects on github. Low level programmers are in high demand, so it's just a matter of interviewing until you get a yes.
