Yes theives are finding places Pokemon Go spawns hard to find Pokemon there and just wait for Pokemon Go players to visit there and try to rob them. Some theives drop down lures and see who shows up. Knowing the players have an expensive smart phone to steal at least. Before we had smart phones and the WWW theives would attack people at bus stops by asking what time it is to see what watch they had and then beat them up and steal the watch and wallet. A friend of mine got mugged that way in 1988.
