This is exactly what I thought of when I saw the all zeros ID. Make it random per device app install, and apps can't say "Want to see this awesome cat video? Enable ad tracking first".
- BillinghamJ 10y agoApps can't say that. Doing so would get them kicked off the developer program - quite possibly permanently.
- tehwebguy 10y agoThis sounds like the perfect honeypot for cleaning up the app store.
- e1ven 10y agoIf I recall correctly, Snapchat refuses to run unless you give it Camera permissions, even if you just want to view other's snaps.
- LeoNatan25 10y agoIf you believe the app is misbehaving, make a complaint with Apple. Enough complaints will trigger an investigation. It wouldn't be the first time a big player is slapped with a request to fix their app.
- endymi0n 10y agoThey need the camera (roll) "read" permissions for their screenshot protection.
- leonatan 10y agoCamera and photos access are two different permissions.
- BillinghamJ 10y agoNot correct. iOS throws out an NSNotificationCenter call whenever a screenshot is taken. No need for photos permission - only camera
- blahi 10y agoExcept that there needs to be a tradeoff between privacy and tracking. This sounds to be a pretty reasonable solution.
