Wow, this guy is humble:
I’m not interested in being remembered — but I would to have the ideas, visions, goals, and values of my whole research community not just remembered but understood and heeded.
- bluetomcat 10y agoFrom listening to his talks and interviews, I see Kay as a true renaissance person. Close enough to the industry to know its inherent illnesses, distant enough to not be indoctrinated by contemporary BS. The absolute opposite of serial bullshitters like Martin Fowler, for example. I recommend his talk "Normal Considered Harmful".
- valpal 10y agoI worked with Alan Kay's VPRI from about 2003-2007 and was fortunate enough to hang out with him in several contexts. He cares most deeply about education and developing higher order thought as a means to becoming better individuals and society. He wanted computers to be a thing children learn from in a very constructive way. He has no ego about himself or his contributions to computer science, but only wishes people would value the thoughtful exploration of learning and building learning environments his research team has worked on.
