Private businesses can suppress freedom of speech because (unlike for the government) there is no law preventing them from doing so.
- michaelmrose 10y agoPrivate businesses cannot with impunity use the courts to suppress free speech. This is why the majority of states have laws that attempt to combat such lawsuits. Essentially the majority of states do have a law preventing them from doing so.
- pixl97 10y agoThere is a whole set of laws and regulations regarding it, queue the FTC. That's why we have a consumer protection organization.
