Instead of becoming productive, the definition of productive is morphed and people find a way to merely look/feel productive in order to satisfy the system. For example: if I'm getting my degree in underwater basket weaving I'm being productive because I'm going to college. If I'm at work on reddit all day I'm being productive because I'm at work and getting paid.
