If we indulge this line of imagination a little further, where some types of quantum state 'computation' would incur more stress on the simulation than others, then the simulation's computation resources would be something that could be manipulated by forcing the 'right kinds of computation.' - i.e. maybe it could be DOS'd!
It's a fun thought.
I enormously agree with your advocacy of an open-mind when it comes to what we lack the tools or imagination to observe yet.
