At the time of Mayer's hire, Yahoo had a pretty low chance at a highly successful turnaround. I think it's unfair to say she didn't have a strategy and that she purposefully let employees suffer. Whatever she did failed to turn the company around but that alone doesn't make her a terrible CEO.
