I really like the "Idea Introduction Pattern" template. I think it's a good way to give a concise description of any business project:
For [target customers], who are [dissatisfied | frustrated | ...] with [the current offerings in the market].
My idea/product is a [new idea, or, product category]
That provides [key problem/solution features].
Unlike the [competing product],
My idea/product is [describe key features]
My name is [name], [role] of [company]
& we are [changing the way ...]
I learned about it at an event at the Montreal Startup Breakfast Club. The presenter credited Geoff Moore for the original template.
- goldenkey 10y agoSounds like something an insect would manage to say. Marketing is better done organically. Here's a better rendition: 1. You're proud to introduce your product or service. 2. Whereas competitors fail on significant specifics or just fail to deliver the full dill pickle, your product succeeds. 3. For existing customers of incumbent products, we have seamless ways to transition. 4. The future is our product. I am Flappy Bird of Vandaley Industries and I welcome you to try our dill pickles absolutely free without frustration for 2 nanoseconds. If you have any questions, contact our sales team at 1-800-FLAP-SOAR as well as the contact page on our walrus-site.
- ivan_ah 10y agoSure, your suggestion works well, but where is the PROBLEM statement? Starting with a comparison to the competitor works only for an existing market. Like OP on the 3 min pitch says, ppl want to hear what problem you're solving, otherwise they won't listen. Dill or no dill.
- goldenkey 10y agoPeople dont want to hear about the problem. They just want to see the solution. An elegant presentation would intertwine them because like you said, time is limited. But I think the main problem with the original template you posted is that it us very drill like. Isnt a big part of pitching to feint the fact that youve done it a lot? If the audience or investors suspect you have experience marketing, doesnt that say you are essentially a drawn out desperate marketer? Honestly I dont know much about this I was just originally joking. I think its important to do that template without sounding drilled. But its a good template nonetheless.
