ipython shell is great for quick jobs, and is taking over a lot of what I used to do with long pipelines of cut/grep/perl -n, etc.
Being able to grab some filenames/contents with
foo = !ls
bar = !cat *.txt # returns list of lines
is super handy. And the real shell is always just C-z away, if I need it.
