Sure, when you have an army backing you up. Do you think a revolution would be televised in Russia or China without the army's support? Even in the U.S., it would probably be covered as "terrorists trying to take over the White House" or whatever.

And is it actually revolution if those with power are simply exercising their power? Can the powerless even stage a successful revolution?

I'm not sure. Many so called revolutions actually had outside help (usually from the U.S.).

Gil Scott-Heron's message wasn't that you wouldn't see pictures on pages, or screens, from a revolution. The events he witnessed and lived through in the 1960s certainly were broadcast. It's that you cannot see into the minds of those who are doing what it is they're doing, think what they're thinking, or feel what they're feeling. Pictures capture only the barest essence of the full reality. A brief interview, late in his life, and much the worse for several drug addictions, explaining that point: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ4_JYI7_e8 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ4_JYI7_e8 More backstory on GSH: https://medium.com/cuepoint/why-gil-scott-heron-wrote-the-revolution-will-not-be-televised-6e298f9d4e2#.vx3atkxsi https://medium.com/cuepoint/why-gil-scott-heron-wrote-the-re...
