Waiting for web standards, let alone advocating them while you wait is a HORRIBLE business plan, and is a disservice to your users who could be getting a better experience NOW. The history of web standardization alone provides ample proof that nothing is predictable, nothing is as expected, and you shouldn't wait. The fact that React Canvas could be built is a testament to where web standards are now, and that's the end of it.
In fact, it's precisely because developers push the limits of current platforms that standardization bodies get a clue of what is important and what developers want.
