Ride.com Shuts Down
We’ve spent the last two years on a mission to mainstream carpooling across the country. Unfortunately, with fuel at a 22-year low ($1.50/gallon), the financial incentives to convince commuters to leave their cars at home and share the ride to work have not been strong enough to generate mass adoption. As a result, Ride will be shutting down its service for commuters after today’s evening commute.
Is this the end of Ride?
No! We are switching our focus from commuters to millions of people that are already carpooling with a real logistical problem that we believe we can support: suburban families with multiple kids and busy schedules. For them, our new solution will make carpooling easy, kid-safe, fair and game-changing for sustainability. Stay tuned!
How does this affect you in the short term?
Today (July 15) at 11:59 PM PT, the Ride app will be removed from the Apple and Google Play Stores and you will get an error message when you open the app. We recommend that you go ahead and delete the app from your phone after today’s commute. All of your financial data such as credit card or bank account numbers will be destroyed from our payment partner’s database. Ride will no longer use your financial data such as credit card or bank account numbers for any purposes.
Guaranteed Ride services at participating companies will also terminate at the end of today. Our customer care team will be available to you through Monday, July 18, when all final reimbursements will be issued.
Thank you for being a member of the Ride community during such an important part of our journey. We are privileged to be in a position to apply the lessons learned to accelerate carpooling in a new way and solve a big problem for families and kids.

This isn’t goodbye, it’s see you soon!
