That's not really that bad, if they only do what they say (send notifications of new articles), I don't see what's so horrible.

  The bad part is getting the popup. Especially for first time I've ever visited their site. Maybe if I was a regular visitor, I might want desktop notifications, but please don't bother a new user with that.

    I don't know, I guess with time I got used to getting unexpected stupid popups.

      So you admit the popup is stupid and unexpected, but are confused why people find it horrible?
