Growing up, I still remember articles about the "lost art of making violins" and how there was all this speculation about what made them so special. Was it a chemical or fungus in the river the logs were floated in? Some lost technique? A particular sequence of aging, resting, bending the wood? Turns out it's none of that and just branding (albeit branding around having a great product at that point in history).
