This is a frustration I had in my most recent project. Management did a good job of coming up with interesting features in the abstract, but a terrible one of communicating those features and working them into the app in a way that was intuitive. I often found myself saying, "this is potentially a good feature, but how do we explain it?" We never had a good designer on staff, so that was a huge part of the problem. A couple times we used outside designers but they didn't have a holistic view of the app, so their designs created as many questions as they answered.
