While I'm mostly in favour of EME, I'm sceptical that it wouldn't be possible to strong-arm big content into providing content without DRM. Digital music has transitioned to being sold DRM-free. TV is broadcast DRM-free and can be copied with widely available technology. BBC iPlayer recently launched a HTML5 beta which doesn't use encrypted media extensions. YouTube doesn't use EME for the music videos available on there. As long as users can't right-click and select "save video" (not possible on any video using DASH) it will still be easier to torrent things.
