("There is no Santa Claus!") OR you could ask yourself why it's important for you to "win" the argument in the first place. Are you trying to convince yourself of something?

Most of the article is a farce, listing the tactics that trolls use to win at any cost and seeming to advocate for them. It's only at the end that guidelines for civilized and productive discourse are laid out; essentially your second point (you could try to understand their argument and perhaps learn something).
