IPad Developers Code Their Apps in the Dark
- allenbrunson 17y agoDid anybody here get the iPad email? I didn't, and I'm wondering if that means only "select" devs will be allowed to get on the iPad on day one. Still though, I'm going to code like crazy to get my game ready to go, just in case. I've already mostly got it ported, so a week should be plenty of time.
- alanthonyc 17y agoI got the email a few hours ago, but there's no way I'm going to get anything in there in the next few days.
- allwein 17y agoI got the email as well. Right now I'm racking my brain trying to think of a minimum viable product that still takes advantage of the unique advantages of the iPad. Then I'm gonna try like hell to crank it out in the next 7 days to see if I can't have it available at launch.
- eru 17y agoMake a whoopee cushion app.
- allenbrunson 17y agowhat, exactly, did it say? just submit as usual through itunes connect, or some special process? for anybody who is serious about this, there is more information about this stuff in apple's private dev forums. all that information is under nda, so i can't be more specific.
- alanthonyc 17y agoNow Accepting iPad Apps "iPad will begin shipping soon and your opportunity to be part of the grand opening of the iPad App Store starts today. Submit your iPad app now for an initial review by the App Review Team and receive feedback on its readiness for the grand opening."
- Batsu 17y ago> I'm going to code like crazy to get my game ready to go, just in case. You'd be crazy not to. Some people consider the App Store a gold mine, and while you might not actually make a fortune, being an item from the all-time lowest selection of apps will be a good thing.
- allenbrunson 17y agoYeah, I'm excited about this. I already got my game working on the iPad simulator several weeks ago. There are a few minor details to work out, nothing show-stopping. I stopped working on it, because I assumed that Apple wasn't going to let third-party apps on the iPad until well after the hardware was available. Now they drop this bombshell in my lap. A lot of people are worried about not being able to test on real hardware. I'm not, really. My game doesn't make use of any advanced hardware features. I'm always careful about which API calls I use. The iPhone simulator has always worked very well for me, so I'm guessing the iPad simulator is also going to be good to me as well. I'm still not convinced that they are going to let absolutely everybody in on the first day. My guess is they will pick a few promising apps and shepherd them through the review process. So, fingers crossed.
