Comcast did a deal with Tivo to give them the interface that my Tivo uses. I have a multicard, 4 channels at once of recording without the settop box. My HDMI TV has multiple inputs for DVD/Bluray players, RaspPi with playback or whatever device I want. So other than the On-demand stuff it's all doable with today's technology. They just don't want to make changes to their billing system to track it. Which is pretty surprising since they have a really nice service architecture bus in production that makes it easy to make these kinds of changes
