Prerequisites: Java JDK 1.8 or greater
Aaand I'm out
- icedchai 10y agoThat's what I say when I see something needs Ruby.
- kondor6c 10y agoWhy? Deploying an application with Java is very easy and you can have intense monitoring built in with out having to use a third party like NewRelic (even though NewRelic adds a lot).
- CaptSpify 10y agonot op but.... Java is always a mess to debug/troubleshoot. It eats memory worse than a bloated browser, and is slooooooow. I personally avoid projects that require java if I can help it.
- icedchai 10y agoIt's actually not slow, and has some of the best monitoring and debugging facilities of any mainstream language.
- CaptSpify 10y agoI'm going to have to flat out disagree with you. I hear this all the time from java devs, but have never seen it in real life. Every implementation I've personally seen of java is extremely slow, and has horrible debugging utilities.
- icedchai 10y agoOk. I'm going to have to disagree since I've seen it in real life several times. Also many large distributed system projects, such as Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Hadoop, etc. are all written in Java.
- CaptSpify 10y agoI guess we'll just have to disagree due to differing experiences. How does a language being used in different distributed system projects mean it's fast? It's just the language they chose to go with. That decision could have nothing to do with speed.
- icedchai 10y agoI was mainly talking about the logging and monitoring facilities, not speed. Though those projects are all quite fast. It's not 1996 anymore.
- Chris2048 10y agoMaybe for long-running processes, but for running one-off scripts it can be slow to fire up a JVM.
- manis404 10y agoSame here. I can't fathom why people would use Java for something like this. Great project tho.
- Tharkun 10y agoAh yes, let's judge a project based on its implementation language. Because every Java program is insecure by default, and no exploits exist for anything written in C. Sigh.
- CaptSpify 10y agoI don't see anywhere that faded242 said java was insecure, and c wasn't.
