After two years of parenting (and after hearing/reading many different opinions) I've come to more or less the same conclusion. The interesting thing, for me at least, is that the same basic approach works for marriage. Assuming all your child's or spouse's needs are being met, sometimes there's nothing to 'fix' - you just need to be present and listen. And for some reason, as a guy, I find that's one of the hardest things to do.
