The response here is spot on and, although I wouldn't say that firing every single one of the signatories of the petition was an optimal strategy, it's an understandable one. As an intern, you are lucky to have an opportunity to learn and to prove yourself. Don't squander that opportunity on something as little as a dress code. At least one of you was wise enough not to sign it. I would bet that person's still an intern there.
