Ten Year Old Girl Gets Accepted as Paris Innovation Fellow
- jaryd 10y agoHere's a link to her personal blog: http://corot.top http://corot.top (it's mostly in French as far as I can tell)
- tomjakubowski 10y agoI wonder if the similarity of the domain to "Carrot Top" is intentional or not :-)
- PudgePacket 10y agoI'd say so :) the picture of her in the fb article shows her with ginger hair.
- dammitcoetzee 10y agoIt's adorable. For kids by kids. Author Eva. Not a bad robot either. She obviously works very hard.
- uola 10y agoThis might very well not be what you meant, but kids (at their best) are inspired, curious and surprisingly determined in large part because they don't understand the concept of "hard work". They build their own stories in their heads which makes the process itself rewarding and challenges irrelevant. Which is what makes it so great. - markdown 10y agoDo you know where one can register .top TLD's?
- wlesieutre 10y agoNamecheap and Gandi both have them
- markdown 10y agoI asked here after first checking at Namecheap. They have the release date as "TBA". Thanks, Gandi does have it.
- wlesieutre 10y agoI didn't try checking out, but if you search for a .top domain on Namecheap you can put them in your cart: http://i.imgur.com/JIhDi7g.png http://i.imgur.com/JIhDi7g.png Currently on sale at $0.88 for the first year.
- markdown 10y agoOh. Thanks.
- jacquesm 10y agoReminds me of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirograph https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirograph
- aperrien 10y agoIt reminds me of the old LOGO turtle I used to play with when I was a kid.
- tastythrowaway2 10y agowhy?
- prawn 10y agoBecause people used Spirograph to make similar patterns. And the cog wheels of her device are reminiscent of the cogs used to make Spirograph patterns also.
- jamesbowman 10y agoSpirograph is an excellent way to introduce kids to the idea of relatively prime pairs. Because the most awesome Spirograph patterns come from the relatively prime pairs of gears.
- tastythrowaway2 10y agowhy?
- InquilineKea 10y agoThis is great. This has a chance of inspiring the next generation of people to eschew traditional routes. I'm sure she'll be super-successful/inspiring in whatever she does, even if she doesn't fulfill her original objectives (similarly with many of the Thiel Fellows).
- iqisracist 10y ago> brave Kinda getting tired of this word being thrown around... But good for her.
- la6470 10y agoThese are all stunts. What if now every parent of every 10 year old applies to the fellowship? Will all of them accepted and is that the mission of the fellowship. This is a pathetic attempt for self ad campaign by some organization.
- HannibalLecter 10y agoFacebook is not displaying the article to those of us without Facebook accounts. On another note, HN should not be upvoting Facebook links. Facebook's whole premise as a website is to farm data from unpaid morons, but it runs even deeper than that. If we accept FB links, we accept Facebook psychology experimenting with the moods of their users and attempting to change our decision making processes through Pavlovian methods. We accept that they may have inadvertently or deliberately caused Brexit through Facebook timeline confirmation bias. If we accept facebook links we accept Facebook recording our attention if we were to purchase Occulus. We accept them recording our whole IM history through the facebook app. We accept them watching us. Like hunters watching prey. Drooling. Disgusted at times by us. Loathing us at times. Plotting.
- coderdude 10y agoLet's keep the hate off of HN. We get that you are salty. We're all salty. Give us the benefit of not being so predictable about it. Spread hate on a thread about C++ pointers. Ask us why we don't use Rust. Literally anything.
- smegel 10y agoWhat are you talking about?
- kleer001 10y agoThe inevitable snark that comes from internet discussions, especially about twee subjects.

- hobs 10y agoNow dead comments; the community is generally interested in positive voices and even criticism of the most recent programming language is expected to trend towards constructive.
- la6470 10y agoReally ???? I bet if this had happened in India or China or Africa there would have been a ton of comments about how this is noth g but a stunt and how it is more important for those countries to worry about the poor. Just because the actors involved is white no contrarian viewpoints are being entertained. No Sir the hate is not outside HN the hate is all there all the time among all the white establishment including HN white and colored hipsters in a very subtle fashion. In fact hipsters are very discriminating and they discriminate against people who look older, who don't wear tight jeans or tshirts, who speaks with an accent and even who expresses any old school opinion including calling a stunt a stunt!
- spacehome 10y agoAll the flavors in the world, and you choose salty.
- auggierose 10y agoAwesome :-)
- jlg23 10y agoHer blog shows her as a very curious young person who is not only meddling in programming but also in history, politics and 3d-printing :) I had to laugh hard when reading "Pour construire sur 3DSlash, il suffit de savoir jouer à Minecraft." [~ For constructing in 3DSlash, it's sufficient to know how to play Minecraft.] That's the right attitude!
- kawera 10y agoHer prose is adorable; this one made me laugh hard too: http://corot.top/2016/06/19/interview-de-la-ministre-de-leducation-national-najat-vallaud-belkacem/ http://corot.top/2016/06/19/interview-de-la-ministre-de-ledu...

- known 10y ago"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man." --George Bernard Shaw
- fsloth 10y agoCool, I was not aware of the Thymio robot product. Any experiences here? Wondering if I shoul buy it for the kids...
- pmiller2 10y agoI wish more people wanted to make the streets smile. I want to do that.
