Ask HN: What Open Source projects do you wish existed or were still maintained?
Are there any projects you wish existed but don't, or, do exist, but are effectively dead (and there does not seem to be any real viable OSS alternative)?
- orionblastar 10y agoScoop ported to modern Perl and Linux. I hope to one day see that happen. I got a friend who worked on it and gave instructions on how to port it. I just been too busy to work on it myself. https://github.com/BlastarIndia https://github.com/BlastarIndia
- augb 10y agoWhat about Scoop makes it worth resurrecting?
- orionblastar 10y agoIt was a Slashdot/Slashnet clone that was used by a lot of Liberal Democrats like Howard Dean. Rusty Foster would create websites for them using Scoop. The Daily Kos used to be Scoop based. Scoop has a good history, and should be upgraded and persevered to modern technology. No doubt it would run faster on a Linux VPS with a small amount of RAM than Wordpress or some other blog. Wordpress once was B2, and someone saved B2 and renamed it Wordpress. The same can be done with Scoop.
- fosco 10y agoGoogle Wave, I wish it was never stopped. its still better than many chat clients that are now becoming popular like slack... it certainly opened up room for business... but google wave was ahead of its time, I wish that Apache wave would be installable from package manager -->'apt-get install apache-wave'
