- anowlcalledjosh 10y agoThank God for that. I'll finally be able to boot my Windows partition again without worrying if it's going to nuke my Linux install.
- Jordrok 10y agoYou're giving them a lot of credit. Would anyone be surprised at this point if that was just the date where the malware evolves into ransomware? How easy it would be for MS to automatically "upgrade" people to Windows 10 but then lock them out of their system until they buy a verified key.
- voltagex_ 10y agoThat's actually what happened to me - but self-inflicted because I'm fairly sure my Win 8 key was from MSDN.
- chillingeffect 10y ago:) I thought I was the only one who simply stopped using my Windows partitions. Just installed 16.04 Ubuntu Studio, too.
- eps 10y agoWanna bet that they extend the free offer "by popular demand" or come up with something similar? Going from "free" to "paid" will guarantee no voluntary upgrades, period. Perhaps if W10 comes bundles with new hardware (just like all Windows versions before it), then - yes, W10 will seep through, but no way in hell anyone will ever explicitly pay Microsoft to upgrade to W10. So they will have absolutely nothing to lose by extending the free offer, so it's exactly what they will do.
