This doesn't tell even half the story.
The "heart of Tech City" in London - Old Street - has several office buildings without any kind of proper internet. You would think that a dense cluster of companies who all absolutely depend on having good connectivity would encourage BT and Virgin to serve the neighbourhood. Think again.
But even that pales in comparison to the absurd crapshoot of trying to get real fiber internet installed. The office building we are in already had Colt's fiber running to the basement when we moved in. It took nearly three months, and the involvement of lawyers, to get the wayleaves negotiated so the fiber could be extended from the basement to our office at the top floor. Through existing risers.
It would be wrong to say that fiber internet in the City of London is a joke. That would be unjust - a joke has a proper punchline. What's in place is at best a mockery.
And those of us who do have FTTP (Fiber To The Premise) are quick to forget just how awful the situation is for the have-nots.
