The bias against men in this article is staggering.
- yoo1I 10y agoThere is a bias in AI systems that stems from them being written almost mostly by (white) men. That just pointing this out, yields this knee-jerk reaction yours is very sad. There is a an opportunity here to make a global society where computers can serve all of humanity in specific needs of everyone instead of just their creators. Let's not squander it.
- exstudent2 10y agoIt's not just pointing it out. "Sea of dudes"? How is that an appropriate and professional way to frame the data? Swap that out with anything else and you can immediately see the problem. How does "Fashion has a sea of chicks problem" sound?
- pnutjam 10y agoFashion has a lot of men involved. They're trying to be edgy. It's not like they said it's a sausage fest.
- qbrass 10y agoGive it some time, and the random adjective generator that keeps reposting this article will come up with it.
- yoo1I 10y agoI would be more sympathetic to your point of view, if I wasn't almost certain that many reactions in the vein of "this is so sexist against men" would be the exact same if she had used "There are almost only men" instead of "sea of dudes"
- jbmorgado 10y agoWell, then woman should start taking their time - mostly free time like the people who normally do it (which you claim is just men) do - to contribute to write those systems as well instead of just complaining they don't fell represented in the outcome.
- orionblastar 10y agoIt is easier to complain, than it is to write code and find training data to use. I find it funny that feminists and SJWs who find something wrong in IT, don't want to do their own version of it and would rather complain about it on social networks and blogs instead. It is like they look for problems, but never solutions. That is why there is a sea of dudes, instead of complaining the sea of dudes look for solutions to the problems.
