I love nano, I've got absolutely no interest in vim or emacs. First things I do with it is set up colour highlighting, make it never break lines, and make it go into the background with ^Z. If I'm ever held back by nano, I've got sublime text and rsub set up on my servers, so I can type "sublime /etc/whatever" on the remote computer, and it will pop up on my home computer.
