Don't forget the carbon credits: by owning the panels on your roof, solarcity (and others in the same business like sunrun) own the carbon credits. Which they can then sell in the carbon markets. When you buy your own panels, there's no way to cash in on the carbon credits. I'm waiting for some startup to provide a way to market them...
