My father introduced me to amateur radio at a young age. I got my license as a teenager. I play with a mode of communication called Earth-Moon-Earth, or EME. The idea is to bounce signals off the moon and have them get picked up by a pre-arranged partner back on Earth. It feels cutting-edge. Were more people exposed to such off-the-wall applications of ham radio, I think there'd be a resurgence in the hobby.
