I've had tinnitus for years but only recently realized that I had it. I always thought it was normal. I'm in the same boat where it doesn't really bother me. All I need is a small amount of ambient noise and it's a complete non-issue. A simple ceiling fan suffices for me. It only bothers me when I'm in complete silence, which basically doesn't happen.
