Any land lord asking me to let them do this would be blacklisted as far as I'm concerned. Using a service like this raises huge red flags as to what type of person they are and what it would be like to live with them as my landlord.

Unless this is made manifestly illegal, and carries significant penalties, both criminal and civil, it's not likely to change.
