I hate paywalls as much as the next guy but I've been asking myself this question of late. With newspapers closing down left right and center, with people constantly complain about to dwindling number of news sources, with users increasing unwilling to entertain web ads, how can we fund quality journalism?
- bpchaps 10y agoI'm doing what many consider "high quality journalism" without any expectation of getting paid. I'm not the only one who does this (dozens!). Some of us just want to do good journalism because we're passionate about the subject we're working on. When the focus is on money, and we have little to no access to submit our work, then there's a major problem. I don't know what the solution is, but there are smart people out there who can find it. For now, we can't even talk about the problem, so of course the problem is going to continue on..
