My HN account is 521 days old and I can't downvote. Granted, I don't comment or submit very much, but I would assume that getting to 200? karma is something of a brake on opinionated newbies downvoting anything. Of course, this is less of a brake on idiots.
- cmelbye 17y agoGetting to 201 karma is the threshold for downvoting I believe. It may have been moved to 251.
- epochwolf 17y agoAs of this post I have 228 karma. I got the privilege to downvote at 201 (which I got to about a week ago).
- alecco 17y agoHigher karma doesn't certify knowledgeable or interesting people at all. Others answered plenty of times how easy is increasing karma.
