I'm a psychiatrist and I primarily work with patients who are involved in the legal system. A sadly common scenario that I see is paranoia resulting in the patient acting in what they believe to be self-defense, with injury or death to another person. Once medicated, and able to process the world without their paranoia, these people are almost always devastated about their actions.
