Well, you should be able to recoup those $1300 you spent on the Macs pretty easily if you do professional iOS development. And if you're not in for the money but just as a hobby: don't develop for the iPhone then if you don't like the costs. (Even though $1300 over 5 or 6 years is a pretty cheap hobby in my books).
