Ask HN: Have you ever just 'got up and left?'
After a month-plus long interview process that ultimately resulted in the prospective company hiring someone else, I have decided to start thinking seriously about what I've always wanted to do: travel full-time. I am a recent graduate with some money saved, and am seriously starting to consider travelling across Europe, picking up freelance and side-jobs along the way to sustain myself. Not much outside of family and a few great friends are keeping me in my home city, and I'm starting to seriously think about moving my life in this direction. I do want to acquire a few skills along the way, namely a new language (I'm heavily considering learning French -- I studied it in university but am not what I would call fluent), a few more coding courses under my belt (wouldn't mind doing these at the beach!) and a few other cool life experiences.
My question for you is: Have you ever just got up and left? Bought a one-way plane ticket to somewhere you've never been and lived to tell the tale? In hindsight, what would you have done differently? Am I nuts?
As always, thanks HN.
