There was a big thread on Earwolf when this was announced. Everyone agreed that Earwolf was deserving of money for its wonderful products, but Earwolf never combatted the question: why not just a password-protected RSS feed? (Jimmy Pardo's podcast, which Earwolf acquired, had successfully used this model for years) Largely, it seemed to be paranoia of users sharing files (Earwolf was also unsympathetic to the concept of downloading shows locally for listening offline), which seems to be missing the big picture. ...I'm not a typical user (I don't own a smartphone, and I don't plan to), so their attitude was fairly disappointing.
