I keep thinking about these rapid changes in large countries like China, and how my own part of the world, Europe at some point might become the only place to actually experience history. I love cities like Amsterdam, where you can look at painting from the 1600s and you recognize whole streets. The city isn't fundamentally different downtown. This sort of experience is becoming a rarity as countries modernize and tear down the downtowns of their old cities in the name of modernity.
