Couldn't the members could write a script (or even just have a friend) that keeps them "alive" forever?

  Maybe using some form of biometrics. Or also hiring some sort of private investigator who would keep track of everyone in the tontine primarily via social media and sometimes by physically checking on them. I'd imagine it would be impossible to get around this problem completely though.
